Introduction of Karen Kay I live near Benton, Illinois, USA, and belong to the Whittington Baptist Church. I have lived here most of my life. My "walk" with God has deepened over the years. From the many years of experience, I know that God is in control. Occasionally, I might include an article that I wrote for our church counseling class that reflects my personal philosophy. As a youngster, I was involved in 4-H and church. I also rode ponies in pony races at county fairs, 4-H Shows and Pony Shows. I had my first ride, at age of three weeks old, on a three-day old colt Rowdy. Of course, I only remember seeing a picture of my dad holding me on Rowdy. At five, I was given Rowdy’s mother and, thus, my riding days began. I was in a horseback riding accident on 10/1/82(crushed a vertebra) and riding has meant as much to me as when I was a kid, even though I have not ridden since 6/9/92. I felt the presence of Jesus during the hospital stay…. Middle years: I taught Sunday School and taught/helped at VBS. I was an administrative secretary and a substitute school teacher. Present years: I am adjusting to life with a permanent disability. In 10/89, I was diagnosed with Cerebellar Hypoplasia, a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy. To help strengthen my muscles, I go to a fitness center/pool for therapy. I am also blessed with receiving encouragement and assistance from friends and family. Life offers many challenges, but never give up even when you are faced with a "setback". Keep the faith and go forward! The Whittington Church web-site is located at |
